How does your engineering help society? What is one important project you have done?

Everyone interacts with civil engineering every single day. When you turn on the tap water or flush the toilet. When you drive on roads or walk into a building. There are lots of fun, technical details that go into every thing you do. Think back to the tapwater example: that water has to be found, captured, treated, and distributed to your tap. That’s a lot of pumps, pipes, chemicals, equipment, and dollars to get that clean drinking water and there are many, many engineers helping to deliver that water to you!

I am helping to build one of the largest reservoirs in central TX in the past half century! It’s a massive undertaking of geotechnical engineers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, electrical engineers, operators, construction workers, and on and on. So many people to help deliver reliable water resources to farmers in central Texas. I am the assistant project manager on the engineers side so I orchestrate a lot of the site visits, communication, and impoundment (filling up of the reservoir with water). It’s super fun.
