Work With Me

Digital intelligence in a connected world

Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat. In today's connected world, your online self will follow you from adolescence to your future career. In this workshop we'll talk about how to be savvy about what you post online to protect yourself, your identity, and your future (probably unknown) aspirations. This workshop will be interactive - so please bring your internet enabled device! We'll look at how celebrities, influencers, and you post with digital intelligence.

Objectives:

  1. Become comfortable with posting online safely

  2. Understand the risks of having an online presence

  3. Understand the necessity of being online in today's world

  4. Increase digital awareness through case studies

 Curriculum:

Session will be interactive. Some information will be provided on what is digital intelligence. Girls and women will use their cell phones to browse celebrities and influencers. Goal is to break up into groups and discuss what the influencers do to protect their identity, yet remain authentic. Girls will leave with a list of what they want their brand to be but how they can protect themselves without compromising their goals. Through this sharing, girls will connect to what each other enjoys about social media and hopefully come away with new friends and new accounts they enjoy following.

Other sessions

Reach out to hear about other sessions I might be able to do to help you meet your goals. Iā€™m interested in sharing knowledge, collaborating on futuristic possibilities, and empowering people to achieve their goals. Open to all work to advocate for and support high school or older girls.

engineering as a career choice

Engineers build our cities. In this session you'll be introduced to the different types of engineering careers from computer engineering to water resources engineering. As a civil engineer, I'll take you through some of my favorite construction projects and we'll see how women are integral to designing how communities interact with their spaces. Afterwards, we'll break out in groups and talk about women engineers and scientists that inspire us.

Objectives:

  1. Become familiar with the types of engineering

  2. Understand the benefits to a career path in engineering for women

  3. Increase awareness of other women engineers and scientists that have done inspiring work

Curriculum:

Students will watch a few short youtube videos about what engineers do. They'll leave with ideas of how to find more information about different types of engineering, local programs for future engineers, and STEM resources.

I'll start by having them think about engineers they know and draw a picture or a few words about their ideas of what an engineer does. We'll share some of these ideas either in small groups or a large group. By the end I will have shown them examples of women in engineering and what engineering means to them. The goal is to get girls exciting about the career path through my own enthusiasm for what I do and the changes I feel I can make through this career.
